THE ARTIST

I am Shane Emeny, an artist and creative designer who is growing and learning from the perspective of a paraplegic in a wheelchair.
I had an accident in 2021, and from there found my passion and creative endeavor to explore painting as a means of self expression and a language that challenges and removes barriers.
I live in New Plymouth, born and raised in Taranaki, I've always had an eye for drawing and painting and how to be creative with 2 and 3 dimensional elements that move both my enjoyment and the viewers.
I mostly paint landscapes that I take photos of. I merge images and drawings together to create a unique visual composition that will encapsulate the viewer in that space, to share in that experience and let their imagination and memories be part of that journey.
I use oil paints on various canvas mediums, working with different layers and exploring the elements of nature to express those vibrant and harmonious colours. I am learning to portray my subject as accurately as I can, true to its form within my own style. Emoting movement and light to understand the form, tones, lines and texture to what makes my paintings come alive and communicate those visual relationships and the story that plays within.
