About The Painting.
This painting is called Sugar Loaf Beach Pools Taken from an old picture I took years ago and constructed a different feeling of how the sea recedes, leaving the deposits of water shaping the sand and formations around the rocks. As the ocean disappears into the horizon of the sky, the sugar loaf islands rise up, almost like the rocks in the foreground, but larger forms within its own expanse of a Tasman Sea rock pool.
The backdrop has the iconic and spiritual Nga Motu/Sugar Loaf Islands. A place I love to hang out and capture so many different settings as the tides shift and the sun moves through the sky.
I have enjoyed painting these shapes as they playfully move the viewers eye, creating a spiritual path and re-connection.
As an artist, learning, growing, refining my style is a journey of creating artwork that can be celebrated by others.
Developing techniques and learning off other artists to explore my own Style, forming a collection of color variations, unique compositions and brush strokes that are authentically me.
This artwork is about the playfulness of nature, about life and the paths we take or being surrounded by the water, trapped until the tide comes in again.
I will continue to paint this space as it ever changes, to emote a sense of connection within the physical and spiritual realms.
As a paraplegic I always remember what it is like to dip my toes into the bodies of water, feel the warmth radiating from the sand and into the watery pools. I wish to go there again and dream of that sensation, if I can't, then creating this painting will always provide that memory and a place I can always go back to anytime I like.
