About The Painting.
This Artwork is about change, this is where I decided to turn my life around.
To live instead of destroying myself, to seek forgiveness instead of hiding and lying from myself and others.
‘SUNSET OVER SUGAR LOAF ISLANDS’ is the sun setting on my old life and watching it fade as I accepted a new beginning.
The waves will continue to crash, to erode the islands and reform the landscape and there will be many things I cannot
control or change. Yet, in myself I can, I will and I am. I am my own wave of opportunity
surging through the waters and enjoying the sun on my back as I continue to grow, crash, reform and delight in all of life’s glory.
The Sugar loaf Islands, situated on the coast of Taranaki in New Plymouth. The Volcanic remnants I have tried to capture as the path of the rough west coast waters rush up to the beach. Using strong brush strokes to enrich the feeling of heavy waves crashing as more sets surge forward. The setting sun, full of rich red and yellow hues to forecast hope on the horizon, the end of the day that will bring a fresh beginning. Throughout my painting style, I am trying to create the landscape in its natural form, slowly working towards a realistic finish while displaying my want to provide a punchy and vibrant painting full of feeling and emotion. I love to paint water and its contrast to solid forms and then the mood flowing into a colored sky. The challenge for me is to always become better than my last piece of work, my approach, use of colors and creating a finished product that has the right balance of composition, tonal contrast, depth and most of all, capturing the story that has inspired me to paint this scene.
That is Sunset Over Sugar Loaf Islands, maybe it might mean something for you too. That is the art of expressing yourself and being the beacon of light for your own journey.
